Dementia

“Nobody thought to ask Grandma what she thought of the change.  She lay in the narrow sagging bed, looking at the light with her filmy blue eyes, her puckered mouth tight-shut against food, drink or medicine.  Grandma was not in that room; she was walking in some long-ago year as another might walk in a meadow.  Days and nights filled with swift passions and griefs of youth lay around her feet like the pages of a discarded letter; hours and minutes of memory and sensation brushed her brain like the wings of moths.”

– The Harp In The South, Ruth Park

This is the most amazing description of a tragic disease that I am terrified I (or anyone I care about) will succumb to one day.
